How to Help
The Coalition Safe Havens
More than just a place for kids, The Clatskanie Together Coalition is building on its Rec. Center to develop programs throughout the community where people of all ages can com together to learn, interact and build strengths.  This program is made possible through Weed and Seed funding and the dedicated community members who are sharing their talents and passions with all of us.
If you would like to be a part of this awesome team, contact Mary Gressett at 503 728 3099 or by email at gressett@ctc97016.org.

 Summer Lunches

The Coalition was thrilled to be approved by the State of Oregon Department of Education to provide free lunches in Clatskanie and Westport every weekday during the summer.  Lunches were prepared at the Clatskanie Headstart kitchen and distributed to sites throughout the community.  Lunch sites include, Clatskanie Rec. Center, Quincy, Clatskanie City Park, Westport Community Center, Christian Learning Center and a dinner site at the Clatskanie Rec. Center.

Additionally, the Coalition was fortunate to partner with the Clatskanie Senior Citizens and were able to provide hot lunches a the "Castle" along side the senior lunch program.  The coalition is grateful to all the volunteers and partnering groups that make this program such a huge success.  Thanks to the hard work of everyone invloved we have distributed almost 10,000 meals during the past two summers and will be ready in June 2010 to do it again!

ASPIRE

ASPIRE (Access to Student Assistance Programs in Reach of Everyone) provides mentoring and resources to help students access education and training beyond high school.

ASPIRE volunteers work one-on-one with high school students in helping them research and access post-secondary education. Our advisors help keep students on a timeline in applying for college and also in submitting their financial aid and scholarship applications. They assist them with their online research of careers and colleges. The most important role of an ASPIRE volunteer is in providing another adult in a student's life to encourage and support them in their pursuit of an education beyond high school. Training is provided by ASPIRE staff. Advisors generally serve 1 to 4 hrs. per week and all mentoring is done onsite at the student's high school.

If you are a high school Junior or Senior talk to your counsellor about ASPIRE, if you are an adult who might be interested in mentoring a student, contact Loretta Serra.

Wyldlife

In WyldLife, we love middle school kids! They are full of life and yet experiencing profound emotional and physical changes.
Middle school is a time when kids make important decisions about who they are and what they believe. And so WyldLife leaders — who range from spiritually mature high school and college students to moms, dads and retirees — consider it a privilege to be involved in their lives.

 Teen Center

The Clatskanie Together Coalition is dedicated to ensuring that our local teens have a place to go that is just for them.  If you are between the ages of 13 - 18 then come by the Rec. Center next to the old Middle School gym at 660 SW Bryant Street.  There is  an internet cafe, xbox & wii games, foosball, a pool table, ping pong as well as snacks so you won't starve until dinner time.
Bring your friends and check it out!

Teen Night

Generally held a day or two before the 4th of July, this event only for 13 - 18 year olds, teen night was developed as a strategy to include middle and high school students in Clatskanie’s largest celebration of the year. Past events have included a battle of the bands, a movie at dusk, a climbing wall and inflatable activities as well as steeply discounted carnival wristbands. Read The Clatskanie Chief newspaper in June of to see what the Coalition is planning for the next Teen Night.
